about

Rising jazz saxophone star M. Alex Ramirez announces his newest project Imitation, arriving July 14th on Adhyâropa Records. Featuring the talents of New York trumpet legend Alex Sipiagin as well as fellow Adhyâropa artists Sean Hannon and Carlin Lee, Imitation showcases Ramirez's compositional acumen as well as the formidable instrumental chops that have marked his arrival. "This album is a document of my musical life, from my earliest upbringing in Columbia to the incredible music that surrounds me today," Ramirez notes. "The musicians and humans involved in this album were crucial in making the music come to life. With them, we were able to create music based on memories from my past and allowed me to experiment with the direction my music will take in the future."

M. Alex Ramirez, the 3rd Place Winner in the Carinthian International Jazz Saxophone Competition, has performed with a wide range of jazz luminaries including Bill Frisell, Gary Burton, Terrance Blanchard, Paquito D'Rivera, and Kurt Elling. He is a recent graduate of Berklee School of Music as well as NYU Steinhardt, where he studied with Chris Potter, His mentors include Ben Wendell, Melissa Aldana, and Babtiste Herbin. "Chris Potter was a tremendous inspiration to me during the creation of this music, which was then reinforced by the teachings of Ben and Melissa. Both allowed me to explore more of what my own music truly is, and find my own voice in this world," Ramirez says. "I'm so excited to get this music out and to connect with new audiences."
